David Christopher was born on August 3rd, 2005, at only 26 weeks and 6 days gestation.

He weighed in at 1 lb, 4oz, and was 12.5 inches long.

Here's his story.

So the day after I posted my last blog we went to another Christmas party. I gotta say, I was all Christmas partied out.

This was Dr. Habersong's christmas party. He's the pediatrician in town who takes all the special needs kids. And there are a BUNCH apparently.

Anyways, the food excellent, and I won a door prize! I got Shrek 2 on DVD. I was feeling all special when the person beside me won a 5 disc CD player. 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif Crap.gif

At any rate, we had a pretty good time.

David started to get bored (imagine that - we were seriously in line to see Santa for about an hour and a half 36_1_10%5B1%5D.gif )

Here's my picture of Santa - the one I got from them was better, but I don't have a scanner. Anyways, he wasn't any more impressed with this Santa than he was with the last one. 36_19_4%5B1%5D.gif

For Christmas gifts, I attempted to do handprint calenders (found here) but after attempting, I realized that wasn't too great of an idea. This was SUCH a messy project!
mmmmmmm yummy (good thing it's non toxic haha)

And we ran out of space to put the pictures so we had to stop after only doing about six months worth.

David took his first unassisted steps on December 1st, 2007!!

He's gotten much better - here's a video after a few days of practice:
I just wanted to show you all how much improvement David's made in walking just since this weekend! I'm so proud of my little boy!!

(sorry it's kinda dark)

I'm so excited about this - remember, the doctors said he may never walk!

Of course, he's not graceful yet. Our record is two bruises and three scratches - all on his face - all in one weekend. 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif

It gets better.... right?

So every night before I put David in bed we pick up toys together.

Well... I try to pick up the toys. My idea is to instill good habits in him before he's old enough to argue with me 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif

Anyways - it cracks me up because I'll start with the ones that he's not playing with. As soon as he sees me putting toys away he goes into full blown panic mode - which entails crawling as fast as his little legs will carry him over to me and screaming, trying to grab each and every toy that I have in my hand.

I swear! It's like he thinks I'm taking them away permanently! I try to calmly explain to him that he still has many toys out, but we're going to put away the ones that he's not using... I don't know why I even waste my breath - I'm pretty sure he can't hear me. 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif

Ugh... maybe I'll wait to put them away until he's gone to bed - at least until he's a little older. 36_11_6%5B1%5D.gif

At the beginning of December David was diagnosed with croup - which sucked, with the four am breathing treatments and whatnot... but we got him better so YAY.

David's nursing hours have been cut back to forty - he was getting sixty a week. I expected that, since he's doing so well - what I didn't expect was for them to let us know on a Thursday that we were cut, effective immediately. So Javier had to miss work again last week because we didn't have anyone to watch David. It should be fine, though - and I've been enjoying the extra time I get to spend with him.

David opened his first christmas presents the other day - we opened Joni's early because we dont see her again until after Christmas. She got David a pair of pajamas with dinosaurs on them and a nice winter jacket!

And here's one of him in his pj bottoms (I didn't think they'd fit) riding his toy. 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif

Sometimes a picture is worth more than wiping their nose right away 36_11_6%5B1%5D.gif

For Christmas I got David a Go Diego Go table and chair set, this electronic book thing that speaks both english and spanish (it's really neat, I'll get a picture), several puzzles, a recorder (one of those musical things), one of those really gross spiny things (his therapist said it would help his texture aversion) and magnet letters to go on the fridge.
The funny thing is, the most expensive thing that I bought him today were diapers.
If I didn't need them before Christmas I'd wrap them and stick them under the tree, too. 36_11_6%5B1%5D.gif

Well today I had high hopes today for getting the perfect Christmas picture of David. Remember back in the day when he would just sit there and let me pose him and make him all cute? Well - it doesn't work that way anymore. 36_1_20%5B1%5D.gif

Anyways, these were the best of what I got - I couldn't even get him to smile!

I am so happy that he walked unassisted. You are great parents....never giving up.

I grossed my husband out by showing him the nose photo. :-)

What's the rest of the story?
